A recent article in Politico castigates Fox News for its past reporting on Dominion voting machines in the aftermath of the 2020 election. The company who makes those machines is called Dominion Voting Systems. They filed a lawsuit against Fox in 2021 which goes to trial next month. The lawsuit claims FOX defamed Dominion Voting Systems by giving interviews and airtime to conspiracy theorists and far right extremists who claimed the voting machines were rigged in favor of Joe Biden.
Because of these allegations, Politico reports that Democrat strategists want FOX News removed from the White House correspondents pool, that Democrats should pull all advertising money from the network, and that the Associated Press should no longer list Fox as a news organization.
A bit over the top? Probably not to a good number of liberals. While we are not big fans of Fox News ourselves, we can’t help but point out the hypocrisy here. Below are a few examples of what Fox’s competitors (MSNBC, CNN, Politico, NYTimes, Washington Post, etc.) have reported as “truth” in the last several years:
Russian Collusion with Trump – This story was reported as authentic for several years following the 2020 election. Even after the Mueller Report found no evidence of collusion, most of the liberal networks still stood by their story. Thanks to the research of attorney John Durham and others, this entire tale has been found to be a ruse. It was set in motion by operatives from Hillary Clinton’s campaign in cooperation with the campaign’s law firm, the FBI, and the Justice Department. None of that apparently matters to MSNBC however, who to this day still refers to the Russia collusion story as fact.
Brett Kavanaugh – The liberal networks figured that if they told us 10,000 times that Brett Kavanaugh was both a serial rapist and an alcoholic it would eventually become so deeply embedded in all of our brains we wouldn’t remember anything else about him. Thankfully, they only managed to infect a relatively small number of truly gullible minds who believe even now that Kavanaugh is actually a criminal drunkard in disguise and that Christine Blasey Ford spoke the truth.
COVID-19 Origin – Ever since the virus hit the US in early 2020, the news media has told us it did not originate from a lab leak in Wuhan, China. They and many Democrats were so fixed on convincing us of this that anyone who suggested otherwise was labeled a conspiracy theorist, stupid, and racist. They used the term “debunked” hundreds of times in print and on air in reference to the lab leak theory and even invented a new term – “debunked bunkum”. While they again managed to infiltrate some easily impressionable minds, they forgot to sync-up their invented narrative with the Intelligence Agencies, namely the FBI. The FBI, in addition to the Department of Energy, now admits the virus most likely did leak from the Wuhan lab. Oops.
Hunter Biden Laptop – With three weeks to go before the 2022 election, the New York Post published an article telling us that Hunter Biden’s laptop was abandoned at a Delaware computer repair shop in 2019. It further reported that on that laptop were emails stating Hunter introduced his father, who was Vice President at the time, to a business partner who just happened to be a Ukrainian energy executive. This is a claim that President Joe Biden has previously denied numerous times saying he had “never spoken to his son about his overseas business dealings”. Not only did the major media immediately suppress this story, they began perpetrating a bogus theory that it was Russian disinformation (the Russians are the media’s “go to” boogie man). Worse, social media companies like Facebook and Twitter removed references to this story and suspended users who persisted in talking about it. We now know the New York Post story was true and we are about to be treated to a Congressional investigation of Hunter Biden’s questionable business activities as they relate to his father.
Dobbs abortion case leak – Is it at all ironic that a draft opinion for the most important and sensitive Supreme Court case in the last 50 years, Dobbs vs. Jackson Woman’s Health, was leaked to a liberal media company (Politico)? The media reporting on this leaked document was so filled with mistakes and intentional misdirection, it was laughable. Thankfully, and unlike in the previous examples, anyone can read the entirety of the original source material for this story – the opinion of the Court written by Justice Alito. No biased, false, or error-filled media stories required.
We will end with an example currently in the news today that typifies all the above. The recently released video footage from inside the Capitol building on January 6th brings a lot into focus. For the last three years the media, coordinating with the January 6th Committee, has presented nothing but a violent narrative of that day. They artfully portray the event as an inevitable consequence of their previously reported dangerous behavior of Donald Trump and his supporters. The newly released videos show a much different account of “violence” inside the Capitol, namely, a complete absence of any violence. In addition, there appears to be no urgency or willingness of police officers to apprehend and arrest the supposed leader of that violence, even though he is calmly walking within arm’s length of multiple officers.
Media reaction to the release of these videos has been as if a bomb went off in their newsroom. They are doing everything possible to suppress, discredit, and marginalize these images. They don’t want you to see or think about any possible alternative version of that day, regardless of what actually happened. They are so intent on dismissing these videos, they’ve fabricated a counter-narrative to explain them away. Here is a paraphrase of this narrative being repeated by most of the major news networks:
Inside the Capitol, the police realized they were massively outnumbered by protesters who were on the verge of intense violence. Thus, they intentionally took a nonaggressive stance and cordially interacted with the protesters to keep things calm and uneventful. The police made the right decision and were brave in doing so.
Keep in mind that we’ve been told repeatedly that this was an insurrection, an attempt to take over our government, and the greatest act of violence in the history of the US Capitol. Does all of that savagery comport with the visual of comically dressed protestors casually walking through hallways alongside police officers who are chatting with them and allowing them to enter rooms and offices? One of these historical accounts of that day is correct. The other is not.
News media companies have taken the position that they can convince you of any narrative they want by simply beating it into you endlessly. They then promote it as the baseline truth and laugh off anyone who challenges the “facts” as if they are insane. Objective truth is completely ignored. The media presumes to be the keepers of all detailed knowledge of current events. These supposed arbiters of truth assume that readers could not possibly find out the actual facts for themselves. The media will tell you conclusions you “should” come to. Unbelievably, about half the US population blindly accepts this every day. This is the world we now live in.
Be highly skeptical of the news media and be constantly on the lookout for deception in their messaging. Get closer to original source materiel to inform yourself (court opinions, text of legislative bills, text of speeches, text of laws and regulations, etc.). Buckle up because it’s all about to get much worse with campaign season upon us. We anticipate a wild and nasty ride.
