Embarrassments and Defeats

The first half of 2026 has featured some very humiliating outcomes for the left which have gotten only minimal media attention or have been ignored entirely. Here are our standouts:

DHS Funding – during and after the long government shutdown this past fall, Republican and Democrat senators worked together to create a compromise funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). That bill added numerous Democrat-desired “safeguards” to the operations of both ICE and CBP, and at the same time reduced the baseline budget for those agencies for the rest of the FY26 budget year. All-in all, it was a big win for the Democrats, being the minority party. But before that bill got to the President’s desk for signature, two crazed protestors were killed while trying to hurt/kill ICE agents during illegal alien capture operations in Minnesota.

In response, Senate minority leader Schumer immediately scuttled the hard-won funding bill and initiated another government shutdown. Schumer’s stated intention was to put even further restrictions on ICE and CBP and possibly lower their respective budgets even more. After months of senseless Democrat grandstanding, causing long security lines at airports due to TSA agents not being paid, the situation was finally resolved last week. The end result was one of the most humiliating legislative losses for Democrats that we can remember. The revised bill that was passed into law included no new safeguards or restrictions on ICE/CBP operations, full restoration of their baseline budgets to original levels, and approved annual funding for both ICE and CPB for the next three fiscal years in a row. The Democrats lost every single one of the Republican compromises they had secured in January before Schumer killed the compromise bill. Worse, now they can’t renegotiate the current terms of ICE/CBP funding until President Trump is out of office.

Ilhan Omar – Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has been a consistent reminder of everything that is poisonous about the progressive movement in the USA. One of the very sad things she epitomizes is the abysmal education level of many young people and politicians in this country. This was brilliantly demonstrated by Omar in a recently resurfaced video clip of her referring to “World War Eleven”. Most of the major media outlets ignored this as a speaking error which she corrected soon after. We disagree. Omar does not have an English language problem. Speaking the phrase “World War”, then appending the word “eleven” (instead of “one” or “two”) is not a mis-speak. Anyone who is truly aware that there have only been two world wars, would never mistakenly say the word “eleven” in that context. This isn’t even an issue of knowing US history. The Word Wars are historical events known around the entire world. Omar is emblematic of the insanely low intelligence bar that liberals now accept for their representatives.

Graham Platner – While we’re on the topic of low bars, the Democrat candidate for Senator in Maine may take the cake. Nazi tattoos, public masturbation, sexual assault, marital infidelity, greatly exaggerated claims of business prowess, the list goes on. On top of all that, this guy is a self-described communist, which is why he has the unwavering support of Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Elizabeth Warren. Have the values and morals of the average voter in Maine changed so much that they would actually elect this person? Unbelievably, the open secret is that the worst of Platner’s indiscretions have yet to be revealed.

Redistricting – It has been a long tradition that the political party in power takes advantage to their ability to redraw congressional district lines in order to provide themselves with an edge in the next election. The other party typically tries to compensate with a similar action. However, this time around, the Democrats took it too far. The case in point is Virginia where not only were new district lines drawn in preposterous ways to try and eliminate every Republican from the state’s delegation to Congress, state officials didn’t even bother to follow their own written rules for how to proceed with implementing their plan. The entire effort was shot down by the Virginia Supreme Court for clear and obvious procedural violations.

SPLC – The Southern Poverty Law Center has been around for more than fifty years. Born in Alabama, its originally stated purpose was to be a defender of civil rights and to lead the fight against racism and hate. That was all well and good until it started using its resources to clandestinely fund the manufacture of racism and hate to create more business for themselves. People in fear of all the faux hate would then donate large sums of money to the SPLC believing it was the best organization to combat the problem. A racket, to say the least.

As with most far left operations like this, the SPLC got too bold and too comfortable with their illegal activities and left themselves exposed. This past April, a grand jury issued an 11-count indictment against the SPLC which included conspiracy to commit money laundering and 6 counts of wire fraud. This is likely the end of their game.

Iran – For the last four months, news media reports about the situation in Iran have been all over the map. There were so many inconsistencies it seemed impossible to get a true understanding of exactly what was happening. Reports directly from Pete Hegseth and General Caine stated that Iran’s military was entirely defeated, with only a smattering of rockets, drones, and small speed boats left in play. Those reports were then sloppily contradicted by news organizations citing unnamed sources that were “high level”, “anonymous”, or “Iranian leadership”. As an example, the news media continued to report throughout the conflict that Iran, lacking any realistic means to do so, was able to open or close the Strait of Hurmuz, charge passage tolls, and lay mines.

It is certainly understandable that whatever was left of the Iranian leadership would want their people (and the world) to believe they were still in control of the Strait. But the fact that they had no practical means to exert that control was entirely ignored by the news media and many congressional Democrats in a subtle and despicable effort to discredit our military’s achievement.

While the final outcome of the deal struck between the US and Iran remains uncertain, the fact that a deal was struck at all, despite the constant flow of misinformation and intentional confusion perpetuated by the left, is an amazing accomplishment.

It’s too early to make any predictions about the upcoming mid-term elections this fall. However, in many more cases than we would’ve expected (House and Senate), the matchups pit a Republican against a radical left socialist. Our gut tells us this won’t bode well for the Democrats, particularly if their current string of embarrassments and defeats continue to November.
